Projects

I've been crocheting a lot lately. It's become a tradition for me to crochet an afghan for each of my nieces and nephews - usually when they're born they get a baby-sized one, although the older kids have twin-size afghans, since they were a bit older when they got theirs. Anyway, since I'm expecting to need at least two new blankies this year and I really don't need the stress of rushing around at the last minute trying to finish up a project, I've decided to make a small stash of blankies to keep on hand. Here are the baby afghans currently in my stash, waiting for nieces and nephews:
This is one is pretty basic, just blue and yellow squares -

This next one is one of my first "original designs" :) The colors are quite a bit brighter in person. The blue-ish looking color is actually a really grapey purple. When I made this, I was feeling little tired of pastels and wanted to make something nice and bright. Can you see the hearts in the pink stripes?

I really like the way this one came out. You don't see a lot of dark gray in baby blankets, but I think it really makes it unique.

And this is my latest creation. The heart squares came out a bit "puffier" than I'd have liked (I know it's hard to tell what I mean by that in the picture), but I think it's still pretty cute.

And this, of course, is not a blanket at all. But I loved the way it turned out, so I thought I'd add it here anyway. Remember the strawberry hat? I posted about it a while back. Both the hat and the matching sweater were made on my knitting machine, and the sweater's trim is crocheted. If you look closely at the little buttons, you'll see that they're strawberries. :)

So those are a few of my recent completed projects. Right now I'm working on a full sized afghan which I hope to someday give to the birth mother of our future baby... I've been working on it for about a week and it's going pretty quickly. I think I'll have it finished in less than a month. I'll post a picture when it's all done. Hopefully I won't have to hold onto it too long after it's finished. :)
