May Highlights

May has been a little busy for us, so I haven't had a lot of time to blog... but here are some highlights -

My sister Erin has been staying with us for the past few weeks. The main reason for her visit was so that she could attend Zion's Camp up in Kirtland, which was last weekend. She had a great time and we're glad she got to go. We do enjoy having her visit, but a month is a long time to have anyone for a house guest (no offense, Rinny). She'll be going back home within the week or so. :)

A couple weeks ago Mark went to see the doctor, and came home with a shiny new glucometer, a cookbook full of diabetic recipes, and a couple prescriptions. We'd been concerned for a while that he would eventually become diabetic, and that time has come. I've been trying really hard to cook healthier meals without a lot of carbs and fat and salt. It's been interesting. We've been trying some new recipes and some have been really tasty. We had been stuck in a bit of a rut lately, having the same things all the time (being gone for work from 6 am - 5:30 pm doesn't make it easy to come up with new creative healthy dinners all the time). It's nice to mix it up and add new things to our menu.

We celebrated our nine year wedding anniversary on May 20th. It was a pretty low-key occasion. We had decided to forgo getting gifts for each other and, instead, get something nice for the house... maybe a reclining sofa (which Mark has been wanting FOREVER). However, Mark broke the rules and got me this cute purse to replace my old one, which I'd really started to hate since it was almost impossible to get anything out of it while holding it (stupid buttony flap). It took me a few days to decide if I liked it or not, since I'm used to my purses being more...well... neutrally colored. I think it's pretty cute though, and it's good to try new things. So I've officially moved my stuff into my new purse. We're still trying to decide what we want to get for our "anniversary present."

We spent Memorial Day with Mark's family and celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday at the same time (Happy Birthday, Dawn!). Sarah & Matt came up from South Carolina for the occasion, so we had the whole family there (Mark's parents, their 6 kids + spouses, and their 15.75 grand kids). Of course we had to get a big family picture with everyone in it since "who knows when we'll all be together again"...it turned out pretty well, considering that ours was the last camera to take pictures and the kids had been sitting there smiling for quite a while.

Well, I think that's most of the news for now. I have another big milestone quickly approaching, so perhaps I'll be blogging about that soon. :)

It was a wonderful day, Monday, wasn't it? I am just amazed when I look at pictures of our family -- how the years have changed us. Gee. . . what milestone might be coming up, Anna?

I love the purse! You looked so cute with it on memorial day. I was almost hoping you would hate it so I could buy it off you. Hehehe. Happy anniversary!
